In May 2019 Carbon Safety Solutions hosted it’s first event. We put on a half day event looking at the concept that wellness is an aspect of health and safety in the workplace that goes beyond what many organizations would consider traditional safety. We discovered wellness really does matter.
We had such an incredible response, and experience with both speakers and attendees truly captivated and engaged throughout the event we were encouraged to host a second event.
While last years two day conference at Tigh-Na-Mara resort was cancelled due to the pandemic, we’re back in an online format to review why wellness matters, and look at a number of wellness matters.
If you’re interested in booking tickets they are $65 and a portion of the revenue generated will go to the Canadian Mental Health Association of BC.
The event is primarily intended to provide insights for business owners, managers, human resource and safety professionals, but employees, students, and general public are welcome to attend.
This year we will be focusing heavily on the psychological aspect of wellness in the workplace with keynote speaker Dr. Joti Samra a registered and practicing psychologist with almost 20 years experience.
Dr. Samra will provide some insights into psychological health considering the pandemic, and its impacts on us, and our workplaces.
We will also be hosting a panel discussion looking at what role equity, diversity, and inclusion play in the workplace, and how safety may be impacted its presence or absence.
We are hoping that attendees will leave the event with a better understanding of some key aspects of wellness as it relates to the work environment, some additional resources, and a few calls to action to help them carry on these critical discussions in their workplace.
The event will be hosted in Nanaimo, on beautiful Vancouver Island.
Carbon Safety Solutions operate on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Attendees will be greeted by a member of the Snuneymuxw First Nations prior to the formal start of the event.
Attendees will also be welcomed by Nanaimo’s current Mayor, Leonard Krog prior to the commencement of the keynote speaker, Dr. Joti Samra.
The Snuneymuxw are a vibrant First Nation of the Coast Salish People, located in the centre of Coast Salish territory on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and the Fraser River in the Canadian province of British Columbia.
While we operate in the traditional lands of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, we encourage you to visit and recognize the traditional indigenous lands of your workplace, you can explore traditional indigenous lands in Canada via Native Land Canada.
Mayor Krog was re-elected as the MLA for Nanaimo in 2017 and resigned on November 29, 2018 upon being elected Mayor of the City of Nanaimo.
Mayor Krog was first elected to the 1991 Provincial Legislature and has served as the BC Government Caucus Chair and previously served as the Official Opposition spokesperson for Justice {Attorney General).
Born in Nanaimo and raised in Coombs, Mayor Krog is strongly rooted in
his community.
We have a fantastic group of speakers and panelists that will be providing insights into a number of different topics including:
