New Canadian Resource for Occupational Diseases

21st February 2019

A new safety resource has been made available in Canada. It is a joint venture between The Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers (OHCOW) and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).

An article from the CCOHS announced:

“The Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers (OHCOW) and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) have collaborated to create Prevent Occupational Disease, an online repository of current and credible occupational disease resources from Canada and around the world, reminding us to Prevent Today for Health Tomorrow.”

At first glance the POD site which can be accessed here provides a high level overview of common topics related to safety, but with a stronger focus on Occupational Diseases:

  • Focus on prevention
  • Hazard categories and descriptions
  • Occupations that are at risk of Occupational Diseases
  • Occupational Disease Overview and Categories

It also provides a section with tools and resources from Canada, as well as other regions around the world.  Resources and tools include:

  • Some regulatory references
  • Videos
  • Fact sheets
  • Education and training
  • Research papers and findings
  • Publications
  • Posters/Infographics
  • Presentations/Workshops
  • Safety tool

This website should prove to be a helpful resource in addition to local regulatory bodies for organizations with limited safety support and resource, as well as safety professionals who are looking for resources, and some standardization in relation to Canadian terminology.
